Seward is one of Alaska's oldest and most scenic communities.Seward, one of Alaska's oldest communities, sits at the head of Resurrection Bay on the Kenai Peninsula.  Only a 126 mile scenic drive from Anchorage,  this quaint little town of about 4,000 people, can also be reach by bus, cruise ship or the Alaska Railroad.  You'll find lots to do here, from trophy sport fishing, hiking, kayaking, flight seeing,  summer dogsled tours, sailing and glacier and wildlife cruises.  On July 4th, every year, is the Mount Marathon race, where hundreds of dedicated ( or crazy ) souls run up 3.022 foot Mount Marathon, and back down again. In January, folks get dressed up in costume, and ( b-r-r-r-r-r-r ) jump into Resurrection Bay to raise money for the American Cancer Society.  The Harding Ice Field stretches for miles behind the mountain, and out in Resurrection Bay, massive tidewater glaciers calve off house size icebergs.  In winter, you'll find a world of cross country ski  and snow machine trails.  Seward is home to the Alaska Sealife Center, a Marine  Research, Education and Research Facility, affiliated with the University of Alaska Fairbanks, School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.  Visitors will find a good variety of lodging, restaurants, tent camping sites, RV parks, and visitor services.
